Manchester City plays host in its next game against West Ham United after their close debacle to arch city rivals Manchester United in their last match. West Ham too had lost its game last week to Arsenal by one goal. Both teams will be looking to prove their mettle this weekend.

Manchester City had maintained a perfect win status before this match and this was their only loss of all five matches played this season. This win too wasn’t coming easy for Man United. Man City kept itself neck to neck with their scoring. Tevez and Bellamy did really well though Adebayor missed this match and Ireland was given a chance in the starting line up this match. Bellamy scored a double and at crucial points kept City in the game even till the final minutes of play. Wright-Phillips as usual has done what has been required of him and maintained strength and balance in the middle and on the defensive lines.

West Ham too played well last week but sadly missed a win against Arsenal. Cole scored as usual and Diamanti too converted a penalty comfortably and kept their scoring shoes on. However what caused them setback was injuries to Upson and Behrami in the initial stage of the match paralysing their mid line. But Parker and Noble made full use of their experience and played phenomenally well to restrict the opponents.

Fulham will meet Arsenal in their next faceoff at home, Craven Cottage, as they move into their next week in the Barclays Premier League. Fulham go into this match after their loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers by 2-1 last Sunday. However Arsenal on the other hand seems pretty confident after their 4-0 sweep against Wigan Athletic. Will that confidence lead to a win?

Fulham have had a pretty ordinary season till now, winning only two of their all five matches. Their match last Sunday was yet another disappointment. Their play was never up to the mark and the team looked though somewhat weak in passing and making moves. It was a complete lacklustre performance by its attack line as they failed to register even a single shot on the goal during the first half. Damien Duff and Johnson tried hard to make moves but with much fail. As it is the shots were coming very rare and even if they came, they were way off target. It was only Murphy’s penalty shot that saved Fulham from shame as it seemed very clearly that entering into the opponent’s goal would be nearly impossible for them.

Arsenal on the other hand registered a much awaited win, thanks to the Vermaelen double. Others who scored were Eduardo and Fabregas. This win will definitely boost their confidence as it came after two consecutive losses. As expected, Van Persie and Eboue have been on an excellent run and have strengthened the team’s attack and mid-line. Accurate passing, unstoppable crosses and shots on target, Arsenal is definitely moving on a fast track to give its supporters what they expect.

Confident Chelsea poised to beat hosts Wigan

These were words spoken from Chelsea’s German midfielder, Michael Ballack. The former Bayern Munich captain has become an essential element in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Ballack, who has already scored a couple of goals in the English Premiership, praised the Italian manager for his attitude towards the players, saying that “he gives the team a lot of confidence”.

Indeed, the Pensioners look rejuvenated under the former AC Milan boss. Defender Ashley Cole has found back his scoring instinct, Ballack commands in midfield once again, and Drogba is the main weapon in front.

As weeks go by this season, Chelsea’s players seem to gain more and more confidence. Late, late winners against Hull City and Stoke, a hard-fought battle against Sunderland, and a convincing win against Tottenham in last week’s London derby have shaped Chelsea’s psychology with confidence and desire to achieve.

So far this season, the Blues are yet to leave a pitch without all the three points in their bag. They defend a 100% record very hard to break.

Complacency is certainly not part of Chelsea’s thinking ahead of games this season. On the contrary, it appears like every encounter is a precious opportunity to go one step further.

On Saturday afternoon, Carlo Ancelotti’s men are poised to beat Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium and march on with their record in the Premiership.

Like Manchester United and Arsenal did, Chelsea are expected to trample on the Latics with a flurry of goals. However, with the exclusion of the injured Drogba on Saturday as well as the change in tactics by Roberto Martinez, things could shape differently.

Nicolas Anelka against Wigan Athletic The Blues will certainly have to play against Wigan without Didier Drogba on the field. The Ivory Coast skipper limped off against Tottenham Hotspurs last weekend and could not finish the match.

He scored his 99th goal for Chelsea in that encounter and will have to wait before clinch a century of goals.

His contribution for the Blues this season is unquestionable. However, Chelsea’s boss Carlos Ancelotti believes that the absence of Chelsea’s talisman upfront will not cause much arm to his squad.

The Italian manager explained to the media after Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Spurs last week:

"We have played without Didier before. He is a very important player for us, a fantastic player. I think we can play well without Didier.

"In the last game against Porto we won without Didier and we have Nicolas Anelka, Salomon Kalou. We have Daniel Sturridge, and Fabio Borini.”

Chris Kirkland ready for Saturday’s challenge

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic’s goalkeeper is preparing ahead of his side’s difficult game against the current league leaders.
Speaking this week about the Latic’s heavy defeat against Arsenal, Kirkland told Wigan Today:

"All the lads are very disappointed [with the loss to Arsenal].But the beauty of this game is you always have another game coming up.

"We have to make sure we prepare right for Chelsea.

"We have got to get back to basics, and I'm sure we'll be working extremely hard on the training ground.

"[Last] Saturday [against Arsenal] was definitely a bad day for us. But there is always another day round the corner.

"The desire is there to do better, and put things right – and I'm sure we will."

Burnley on the other hand is definitely high in spirits after their win last week. This was Burnley’s third win this season. They played well up to their capabilities and did pretty well. Fletcher and Paterson played with tremendous skill and made moves that left opponents gasping. Elliot was a key player in maintaining the tempo up for Burnley. However McCann suffered an injury in the 28^th minute and his chances are very unlikely this week.

Liverpool v Hull City English Premiership Match Preview

Liverpool host bottom side Hull City when the English Premier League resumes this weekend. Like their rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, the Merseyside Reds will play on Saturday.

Anyway, before every match day, Rafael Benitez eyes nothing else but a victory.

Last season, the Reds were inches away from claiming the English Premier League trophy for the first time since almost two decades. However, dropped points against lower teams especially cost them a lot.

Last term, Phil Brown’s Hull City created a huge scare to Liverpool at Anfield with two goals. In the end, the Merseyside Reds managed to avoid defeat but could only clinch a 2-2 draw.

Such a result this season will do more harm than last year considering Liverpool’s current position and situation in the league table.

However, Liverpool’s skipper Steven Gerrard is up and ready for the challenge that the English Premier League season poses this year.

Reflecting on his side’s run this term, the captain said:

"It was a tough start for us this season because we lost two games close together and we knew it was going to take time to recover from that.

"But we're slowly getting back to where we want to be.”

Indeed, a convincing home victory against Stoke proved Liverpool’s intent to challenge the rest of the Big Four. Now Steven Gerrard believes that the future is even brighter for his team. He concluded:

"There's more to come from us and we're improving game by game."

The Bolton Wanderers started the season on the wrong foot losing the first four matches it faced.
