Manchester United

A nine-match unbeaten run has helped Manchester United rise to third in the Barclays Premier League table. But they have won only one game in their last three away fixtures. Whereas Stoke has won two of their last three home fixtures and one is against Arsenal. Can United take their unbeaten run to double figure? Can they turn around their away performance by winning the match against Stoke? Or Stoke is going to make another Big win against United?.

United have welcomed back the defensive trio of Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling and Rafael Da Silva back from injury over the Christmas period. Van Gaal's options have been further boosted by the return to training of Ander Herrera and Adnan Januzaj from an ankle injury and illness respectively, but they appear unlikely to feature this week. Angel di Maria (pelvis) and Fellaini (rib) are also expected to miss out once more, while Marcos Rojo (thigh) and Daley Blind (knee) remain absent.

Stoke could be without in-form forward Bojan Krkic, who has gone for a scan on a hamstring injury, but Jonathan Walters is fit to play despite a recent illness. Hughes is also likely to be without the trio of Steve Sidwell (knee), Phil Bardsley (ankle) and Stephen Ireland (knee).

Stoke City v Manchester United Premiership Match Preview

Stoke City host Manchester United on Saturday afternoon at the Britannia Stadium. The Red Devils know all about Stoke City’s resilience. So as they look forward to remain in the contest for the English Premier League title, Manchester United will deploy much of their strength.

Referee shows the red card to a Stoke City player against Manchester UnitedDespite Stoke City’s status as a promoted side who survived relegation last season, it is a strong possibility that Saturday’s match involving Manchester United will not be a one way contest.

The corresponding fixture last year saw the Red Devils – dressed in blue on that day – edge past Stoke City by a single goal to nil. Manchester United were subject to pressure and anxiety for over eighty minutes until Carlos Tevez, who is now at City, clinched the winning goal.

There could be more of the same on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium. How exciting the match promises to be!

Stoke City were moments away from holding on to Chelsea’s unbreakable might two weeks ago.

Abdoulaye Faye’s 32nd minute opener looked to have put the Potters on the perfect track. But goals from Drogba and Malouda deep in each half destroyed Stoke City’s hearts and home record this season.

Last week, the Potters travelled to the Reebok Stadium. Just as everyone thought that Dave Kitson’s second half goal had sealed a much-desired away victory for Stoke City, the moment of disappointment came when Bolton were awarded a penalty. The Trotters’ Matt Taylor converted his kick with no trouble to cut Stoke’s points into one.

So a couple of miserable results there for the Potters since their 1-0 victory against Sunderland. How will they respond against the champions Manchester United?

Manchester United are currently three points off the leaders Chelsea and three points above Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspurs, but City and Villa have a game in hand.

The English Premier League defending champions are keen to retain their crown and make it four titles in a row.

The road surely isn’t easy. However, after a dramatic – although controversial – victory against Manchester City in the local derby, the confidence of the Red Devils has gone to a higher level.
Manchester United look difficult to break, mentally, physically, and tactically even with the departure of Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo.

With the presence of Rooney upfront, there always seems to be a way out for the Red Devils to put the ball at the back of the net.

Recently, Darren Fletcher has also come up as a striking option and the midfielder – who scored twice last weekend – is ready to score more goals.

He told the media:

"It is nice to get a couple to get me on my way. Now I have to try and get a few more."

Besides Darren Fletcher, let’s not write off last Saturday’s local derby hero Michael Owen.
