Manchester United host Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on Saturday evening as the English Premier League comes back.

After losing 2-0 to Liverpool last Sunday, the Red Devils could redeem their pride, hope, and confidence with a home victory against Sam Allardyce’s Blackburn Rovers.

At the top of the English Premier League’s table, the race is tight as Chelsea atop the standings with 24 points, followed by Manchester United who have 22.

And if Arsenal only have 19 points, the Red Devils must remember that the Gunners, who have a game in hand, also have the edge in terms of goal difference.

Beating Blackburn Rovers is the only thing that Sir Alex Ferguson will want after losing the first spot to rivals Chelsea.

The manager, who could be banned from staying on the touch line against Rovers, will expect a better display from his players and from his defenders especially.

According to reports, veteran Rio Ferdinand would be dropped out from Manchester United’s squad after a series of underperformance for the Red Devils and England as well.

Meanwhile, Michael Owen could have the chance to score in two consecutive games for his side if the coach decides to play him on Saturday.

Owen was in fine form during the week as he netted a decisive goal to round up Manchester United’s victory in the Carling Cup.

Other available first team players are expected to play at their best after getting a rest during the week, since the team that featured against Barnsley in the cup was almost a reserve side.

Blackburn Rovers analysis

Blackburn’s run in the Premier League is poor and they’ve stumbled against all the teams from the big four that they’ve met so far.

Their trips to the Emirates and to the Bridge ended in a real nightmare. A 6-2 defeat against Arsenal and a 5-0 loss against Chelsea simply showed how helpless Blackburn are against great opposition forces.

However, Blackburn’s 5-2 win in the Carling Cup on Tuesday sends out a message of threat to their upcoming opponents, Manchester United.

Sam Allardyce, who wanted his side to get a respectable result against Chelsea the last time out, might get what he wants on Saturday: a shock at Old Trafford.

Luck and perfect tactics will help his side, Blackburn Rovers, to emulate or do even better than Sunderland who drew against United at Old Trafford earlier in the month.

Bent, who has been one of the leading scorers this season, has scored 8 times for his team, but was unable to impress many this time around.
West Ham, who have been poor performers throughout, surprised many by their performance against Arsenal last week. Being down by 2-0 in the first half itself, a stunner from Cole and a late penalty by Diamanti, got them back into the match, ending Arsenal’s 4 match winning streak. Cole, who has been in top form this season, has scored 5 times but has not yet been able to get proper support from his team. The unexpectedly good performance from the team will surely be a confidence booster for the team who are yet to face victory after their initial win.

Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t tasted victory for the last 4 weeks now and their last two matches have ended without result. Their incapability to perform has disappointed many, including the fans and manager. Their last match with Aston ended in a draw after they were able to equalize the goal from Agbonlahor with the help of the 84^th minute penalty from Blake. However, the Wolves did a pretty appreciable job with the defense with Jody Craddock being the heart of the defense.

Chelsea v Blackburn English Premier League Match Preview

The attention in London will switch from the Champions League to the English Premier League as Wednesday's big winners Chelsea resume their domestic campaign.

Two defeats in three Premier League games have let Chelsea slip from first to second in the standings.

But on Saturday afternoon, the Blues will have the chance to reach the top of the table with a victory against Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea – more concentration in defense will offer victory

Carlo Ancelotti’s men negatively looked different in defense against both Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa in October this month.

Chelsea’s play didn’t only lack of creativity in every part of the field, but also of concentration at the back especially.

After their 2-1 loss against Aston Villa last weekend, Carlo Ancelotti bemoaned his side’s defensive mistakes:

"We lost the game because we had two set plays. We need to be more focused on the situation.

"We want to do better for sure. We need more concentration."

Speaking to The Daily Mail last week, Chelsea’s boss Carlo Ancelotti explained the tactical points that led to his side committing unnecessary mistakes. He said:

"On the set-plays we need to do better. We need to apply more pressure and more markers in the box,

"At Wigan, we made the same mistake for the first goal. And we have to work to improve the situation because it's important.

"We have a lot of very good jumpers, like Didier Drogba, John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, and we have to pay more attention, with more concentration in the box.

"We have worked on the set-plays but have to maintain focus.

"There are things we can improve and set-plays are one of these."

He continued:

"We gave United a chance to get in front of us and it is three points dropped unnecessarily.”

Indeed, the Blues need to bounce back in the Premiership. They are one point off the leaders Manchester United and only two points ahead of Tottenham who welcome Stoke City on Saturday as well.

After convincingly beating Atletico de Madrid 4-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League on Wednesday, Chelsea are poised to recover from their 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa last weekend with an overwhelming victory at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Statistics show Blackburn as the third team to possess the worst defense in the English Premier League so far this season.

Tottenham came out and won their last match against Portsmouth 2-1 thus moving to the 3^rd position in the points table. Stoke City on the other side also won their match last week against West Ham by 2-1.

Tottenham have played quite impressively during the current edition of the Barclays Premier League. They have won six of their nine matches thus scoring 19 points up to now. The team has played really well together. Not only have the players have carried out their responsibilities well, but they have also supported other players brilliantly. Defoe has been in a phenomenal form this season, scoring again in the last match as well. King too scored this time. Tottenham has been really good in their defence. Lennon too has brought in great support in the mid line thereby strengthening the team’s counter attacking abilities.

Stoke City on the other hand has had an ordinary season up till now. In spite of their win against West ham United last week, they have won only three of their total nine matches till now, securing just 12 points. They have not played right up to their potential. Beattie has shown some respite, scoring a double in the last match. Apart from him there hasn’t been that much brilliant play making that they need to earn them straight wins. Great concern lies ahead for the team management as the season progresses into its further stages.

They have not been able to maintain a good possession and the right tempo to secure that coveted win.

His goal last match though proved to be quite controversial as his shot was deflected of a beach ball into the goal.

Stuttgart hope to post their first win of the campaign against Sevilla

Pegged back at the VfB Arena by a late Rangers FC equaliser in the opening round of Group G matches, VfB Stuttgart will be determined to avoid another slip when they play host to Sevilla FC on Matchday 3.
